Education
Dr. Hank Strickland pursued his undergraduate education at Davidson College. He received an Athletic Scholarship and played both football and baseball. While at Davidson, he was a member of the Beta Theta Pi social fraternity.
He earned his D.D.S. degree from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill in 1972 and was President of his freshman class. He continued his education at the University of North Carolina and received his Masters of Science in Periodontology in 1974. His research involved immunology and he presented a paper at the American Academy of Periodontology in the Orban competition in Atlanta, Georgia in 1974.
Career and Further Education
Following his residency, he entered the United States Navy and was stationed at Camp Pendleton, California. While at Camp Pendleton, he established a Fellowship training program in Periodontology for dentists interested in expanding their scope of practice. Dr. Strickland has been very involved in organized dentistry and periodontics.
He has continued to further his education in:
- bone grafting
- gum grafting
- periodontal regeneration
- implants
- sinus grafting
- and esthetic periodontal surgery
He has served as President of the Nash-Edgecombe Halifax Dental Society, the North Carolina Society of Periodontists, and the Piedmont Periodontal Study Club. He practiced for many years with Dr. Stan Ford and now practices withDr. John Kim who joined the practice in 2006.
Personal Life
Dr. Hank Strickland married Rita Barnett in 1974 and had four sons. He has two children that are married and one grandson. He has been involved with his family, church, and many organizations. He was a Little League baseball coach for many years and is a past President of Benvenue Country Club. His hobbies include daily exercise, golf, traveling, and enjoying the beautiful North Carolina coast.
